Dr. Swanzi Saunders
Dr. Swanzi Saunders is a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in private practice in California, a former church pastor and Biblical teacher, and the author of Still Becoming: A Therapist’s Sacred Journey Through Depression. Her work is shaped by a lifelong commitment to integrating psychological insight, spiritual formation, and compassionate care for the whole person. She brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, theological training, and lived experience that results in a deeply integrative approach to healing—one that honors the mind, heart, and soul.

Dr. Swanzi’s professional journey spans ministry, mental health, and education. In addition to her clinical practice, she has served as a church pastor and biblical teacher, walking alongside individuals and communities during seasons of growth, transition, healing, and restoration.

Earlier in her career, she also worked as a school program administrator for the Los Angeles Unified School District, gaining extensive experience supporting children, families, and systems within complex educational environments.
Her academic background reflects her commitment to both faith and psychology. Dr. Swanzi holds an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies, a masters degree in theology, and a second masters degree in marriage and family therapy. She earned her doctorate (PsyD) in psychology, equipping her with advanced clinical training to compassionately support individuals, couples, and families through a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges.

In her book, Still Becoming, Dr. Swanzi shares her personal and sacred journey through clinical depression, offering hope, insight, and compassion to those navigating their own paths toward healing. The book reflects her belief that recovery is a transformative process, often non-linear, and deeply sacred, and that healing can be approached holistically—integrating therapeutic care, spiritual discernment, and grace-filled self-understanding.

On a personal note, Dr. Swanzi is the mother of three adult children, all married and raising families of their own. Together with her husband, Carl Davis Jr., she enjoys life within a blended family of five adult children and nine grandchildren. She and Carl live in Southern California with their giant bernedoodle, Teddy, and enjoy a life rich in family, faith, and meaningful connection.
Through her counseling practice, speaking engagements, and writing, Dr. Swanzi invites others into spaces of healing, reflection, and hope – offering clinical insight, spiritual wisdom, and lived compassion to those who are still becoming.
